Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) at Preston Elementary

At Preston Elementary, we use PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) to help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. PBIS focuses on teaching and encouraging positive behaviors rather than punishing mistakes. When students struggle, we provide the support they need to grow, learn, and make better choices.

PBIS is built on a three-tiered system that supports every student:

Tier 1 – Support for All Students
We teach and celebrate positive behaviors schoolwide. Clear expectations are taught in every classroom, and students are recognized for making good choices. Families are included as partners in helping students meet these expectations.

Tier 2 – Targeted Support for Some Students
Some students may need extra help to stay on track. Tier 2 provides small-group support, extra guidance, and positive reinforcement to teach self-regulation, social skills, and problem-solving before challenges grow.

Tier 3 – Individualized Support for a Few Students
A small number of students may need intensive, personalized support. At this level, staff work closely with students and families to create strategies that fit each child’s unique needs, helping them thrive academically and behaviorally.

When PBIS is used effectively, students feel supported, teachers can focus on learning, and our school becomes a positive, respectful, and safe place for everyone.
